No. 8 “Let’s hear the voices of the Fukushima evacuees”

(August 10th, 2012)

People affected by the nuclear disaster thought how they should cope with the situation, and from now on, what are the perspectives for their future. 100 000 people moved inside and outside the Fukushima prefecture, in addition more than 1500 people live as evacuees in Sapporo area. There are a lot of evacuees who have moved outside of Fukushima. Let’s listen directly to the voices of those who have been evacuated from the nuclear accident area, this time I would like both of us to think about the current situation.

Dr. Michael Mariko

Dr. Michael Mariko was born in 1942. Peaceful usage of the nuclear energy expert. Graduated from the National University of Belarus, department of physics. Received PhD in physics in 1973. During 1966-2008, worked in the Institute of Nuclear Engineering of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Institute of Physical and Chemical radioactivity. From 2008 worked as principal researcher of the Belarus Academy of Sciences, Institute of Power Engineering. 1989-1991 Belarus special top executive committee member, of the Chernobyl accident measures. 1990-1994 Belarus radioactivity protection Central Committee member, European committee member of radiation risk analysis.

Professor Yevgeniya Stepanova

Professor Yevgeniya Stepanova was born in 1939. In 1962 graduated from the National Medical University, in Tomsk. Tomsk National Medical Institute, pediatric radiation specialist, from 1998 Ukraine National Institute of radiation medicine, director of pediatric radiology department. Served as Ukraine’s Chernobyl committee medical advisor, International Risk Analysis Committee member.
